Ukraine Is Not a Chess Piece, It Is Our Soul

We, the Rus: Russians, Belarus and what is now termed Ukrainians, as well as the Carpatho Russians, Transnistria Moldovans and much of northern Kazakhstan are one people of one stock and primarily one faith.

After our first capital was moved from Novgorod (modern day Russia) to Kiev (modern day Ukraine) after the city was liberated from the Khazar yoke, Kiev became our spiritual, moral and religious, as well as physical capital. The land of the Rus was even named Kieven Rus. For three hundred years, until the Mongol invasions of the 1200s, it stood this way. There was no such thing as Ukraine (the Edge), how could there have been an edge in the heart o four great nation?

When the Mongols arrived and kniaz Stanislav of Kiev choose to fight, they burned the city to the ground. Many of our cities were sacked and whole areas depopulated, especially in what is now modern central and southern Ukraine. Greeks were equally wiped out from their age old colonies along the south of Ukraine and the Crimea. Thus was created the “Edge”, Ukraine as the enemy settled and created the Crimean Khahanite.

Our shattered nation, many of its kniaze (princes) and their dryzinas (friendship bands) fighting to the bitter end asked our Christian brothers in the West for aid. Aid? Considering what they gave us, we would have been better with none, for instead of aid, they gave us Crusades, as they plunged Catholic blades into our backs as we stood face to face with the Asian plague. Poles, Lithuanians, Teutonics and Swedes, swept into our lands, conquering where they could, being repulsed where we could, but draining us, none the less.

Thus did a shattered and burnt Kiev, trying to regain its footing, first become a prize of Lithuania and then as the capital of the Catholic colonies at the heart of our lands as the joint Polish-Lithuanian monarchy. Central Kieven Rus was first bereft of people by Mongols than by the Catholic Poles and Lithuanians. The Carpetho Russians were cut off from the rest of their brothers, and still remain so to this day.

Since the Mongols first presented the opportunity, it has been the drive of first the Lithuanians, then the Poles, then the Prussians, Austro-Hungarians, British, French, Germans and now Americans to rip away our soul, our heart lands, that Kieven Rus would not rise again. But we are not small Serbia with its Kosovo.

The Polish rule even reached Moscow itself, twice, though they could not hold it, but they had no problems burning it and massacring the population. Our National Day is when two Russian people’s armies, under the command of a butcher: Kuzma Minin and a minor noble: kniaz Pozharsky defeated the Poles and retook what was left of Moscow, thus ending the Great Smyta (Times of Troubles) in 1613. It took another hundred years to throw off the Polish Yoke totally. The Poles say they came to bring us “civilization”, they did it with sword and torch.

After three hundred years, we had reclaimed our lands, reunifying all of the core Kieven Rus principalities, all of core Mother Russia, be the capital Novgorod, Kiev, Moscow or at that time, newly built St. Petersburg. It stayed that way, regardless of the games played by our neighbors or wars waged upon us by the British, French, Austro-Hungarians, Prussians and Turks.

Not until WWI and the 1917 Revolution (sponsored first and foremost by Wall Street and London), did we lose Ukraine again, through Lenin’s disastrous Treaty of Brest-Litvosk to the Germans and then the anarchists. Most of this was regained now under Soviet Rule, after the Whites were further backstabbed by the West and the Japanese. Western Ukraine and Belarus, however, remained under the rule of the new Polish fascist state (after their 1926 revolution), where concentration camps were in action for Orthodox Christians who refused Rome’s embrace. In 1939, the territories that Soviet Union took from Poland were those very territories which were not there’s in the first place. The reunion was short lived when the Nazi regime and their allies invaded in 1941 and it took until 1944 to regain them again and cleanse the Nazis out.

Again, in 1991, we lost our heart lands, a catastrophe that has yet to be corrected but will be. While the fall of the West imported Marxists, was a great event, the dissolution of what was still the Russian Empire and the loss of our core provinces in Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, into separate states, was another great disaster: one sponsored by the West and to its sole West.

The West, and the Anglo-Sphere in particular, has spared no efforts on tearing away Ukraine from Russia, at any cost, even the lives of thousands of Georgian soldiers in South Ossessia, to create a situation to try to force through Ukraine into NATO, against the wishes of over 70% of the Ukrainian peoples. They had to take such efforts because their Orange victory in Ukraine was collapsing without having reached the desired goals. The staged production of the Yushenko-Timoshenko show, wrecking the lives of tens of millions of their citizens and the nation’s economy, will be fully done in the January 2010 elections. They have tried to force Russian, the native tongue of half the population, out of the country, to replace it with “proper” western Ukrainian, little more than debased Polish. They have created their own, non-recognized “patriarch”, stealing Russian Orthodox Church lands from the Moscow Patriarchy. They banned much of Russian media, against the wishes of their people and black listed many Russian citizens from coming into what is Russia’s heartlands. They helped murderer Russian citizens by sending weapons and mercenaries to Saakashvili the Genocider and Eater of Ties.

As Zbigeniew Brzezinski has said, if Russia ever gets back Ukraine, it will be unstoppable, no longer on her knees to be abused by those who have long ago let go of Christ. To that end, they push an unwilling population into NATO and EU, seeking to forever cut the bond of our family, to steal the patrimony of all the people of ancient Rus. To grab the resources they need and to come one step closer to destroying out Holy Russia and subjugating our people, and ripping away our Orthodox faith.

Enough! The government of Russia must make it absolutely beyond doubt and clear in plain, pure and brutal language, to the West: Ukraine’s entry into NATO will be an Act of War. The West, despite their pretty words, has ever only respected two things: power and money.

The Orange regime is bound by law, passed by the Rada (parliament) to hold a nation wide referendum on moving towards NATO or the EU. Knowing the will of the people stands against this, they have ignored the order of the parliament and as such have relinquished their right to rule. If Kiev, whom ever comes to power in 2010, continues to ignore the will of the parliament and people, our Duma must pass a resolution to accept any and every Ukrainian oblast that referendums and petitions to join Russia, into the Russian Federation.

The West must fully understand, we will not surrender our souls and for this we will absolutely fight. Russia is not Serbia with Kosovo or Israel with East Jerusalem and Judea. We can and will make our will heard and respected, even if it takes drawing our sword and making our stand. Gogol’s Taras Bulba would have done no less.

But fight who Stas? The Ukraine is on the verge of implosion anyway. If they joined NATO (which would be unpopular anyway) who would Russia fight and how? Even then, one opinion poll I found said that many Russians aren't too bothered about Ukraine/ Belorus.

I do believe that Russia can become a major power again, and lead the Orthodox nations, but not before these people have spent more decades (maybe centuries) under corrupt secular rulers. In the case of Yushenko's fiddling with Orthodoxy, this will take a long time to change.

The population of Russia, The Ukraine, Greece and Romania are all set to decline steeply in future, and when they will see what will probably sadly happen to the Georgians when their population collapses (guzzled up by Turks and Azeris) the Orthodox believers will form a new coalition.

As it is, I doubt if Sarko will let the Ukraine and Georgia join NATO (it's probably to help German sanity that he joined) and ironically, this expansion of NATO will see it collapse. If America is drawn into Central American conflicts, will people from around the world really rush to help them?

Russia's population is actually growing and even in the crisis, so far this year, for the first half, 40,000 more babies were born than last year, which was another record year of the past 6 years.

Georgia, for that matter, is also very pregnant.

First off, if it wasn't for Russia, much of the Balkans would still be under the turks, especially with the British and French supporting those Turks. Secondly, not as if Russia didn't work for restoring Constantinople, the West rather have Orthodox Christians under Islam then free. It was the West who launched the Crimean War for the Turks and who armed Atuturk to destroy the Greek army in the 1920s. Cry me a river.

As for Poland, hardly invaded, the territories taken were ours.

As for our alliance with Hitler, out of convinience since the West was 1. pushing him or trying to push him to the East, 2. had almost convinced the Turks to attack Russia as there was a Turkish army on our borders ready for war in 1939 and 3. supplied and armed the Japanese (regardless of the Chinese massacres...and the US was the biggest supplier of everything to the Japanese war machine) to attack Russia...that is, until we spanked them in 1939 and that ended that.

Doxa to Theo, there has been an increase in Russia's birth rate. But according to Anatoly Karlin's excellent work, (http://www.sublimeoblivion.com/2009/09/26/russian-resilience-2/) Russia's deaths and births are almost on a par, though deaths are still higher. When the 80s generation ages and the burden of fertility falls upon the 90s generation, it is probable that there will be a population decline.

Given that the freemasons will probably try to incite Jihad against the Russians again and to ruin the Russian economy, I do not have very optimistic thoughts for Russia in the immediate future.

Still, you did not answer my question: who would Russia attack if Ukraine became NATO and what would they hope to achieve?

Sorry, but I think that Putin was wise to select Medvedev as his successor. Russia needs a pragmatic leader right now. Speaking as a historian I know that it takes time for change to occur. East/ Central Europe are force-fed self-pitying nonsense blaming their faults on Russia (not just the USSR which indeed did many awful things). It will also take increased piety on the part of the Russian people and prayers of Holy monastics for Russia to again become the Third Rome if it is His will.

  9. Stas:
The core of almost everything you say here is quite correct, of course. Although others may not understand or want to hear it, I believe the prophecies of Orthodox Christian saints concerning the fall of communism in Russia, and the religious resurgence of the Orthodox Church in Russia, and the rise of Russia itself "for a short time" before the end. I see it with my own eyes. And when I say Russia, I mean Rus'.

My own visit to Kiev (the "Mother of Russian cities") for a week culminating in Pascha (Easter)this past April, and watching Taras Bul'ba in a Kiev movie theater, only reinforced what I already sensed and knew: that we are one, all of Rus'. In fact, probably over 90% of all conversation I heard was in Russian, and it is well known that over 90% of Ukraine's periodicals are in Russian. Many people in the West do not realize this. And this is not to denigrate spoken or literary Ukrainian, which I love hearing. But much if not most of what is now called Ukraine has been "bi-lingual," meaning both Russian and "Little Russian" (a previously-used geographical-based term, not denigrating to Ukrainians, and as Ukrainian used to be called)have been used side-by-side for centuries. Why is it that most Jews who emigrated from what is now called Ukraine and Belarus, to the US, about a hundred years ago, spoke Yiddish and Russian, as opposed to Yiddish and Ukrainian? Because the common language at the time there was Russian. (Also, see the movie "Everything is Illuminated," about an American Jewish boy who goes to Ukraine to discover his roots. The language spoken 99% of the time by all characters except the American and his interpreter is Russian.)

Also, repentance is the major theme of Russia's religious and national resurgence. It is interesting to see how Solzhenitsyn had been calling for this repentance for years, as the Russian Orthodox Church also has and continues to do.

    Yasha,
You make a major error that so many make: equating the communist USSR with Russia. There is a big difference between true Russian values and culture, and what the Soviet system promoted. To be sure, the Soviet Communist system tried to obliterate all things truly Russian, but they failed. However, as communism has everywhere it has ever been practiced, it has left deep wounds and terrible scars on all the nations it has ever subjugated. Lenin and Stalin and their ilk committed their crimes as a result of their communist Marxist-Leninist ideology and values, which directly opposed true Russian values and culture. They did not do what they did because they were Russian, and Stalin was clearly not an ethnic Russian. On the contrary, they debased and denigrated all things Russian in their quest to form the new "homo sovieticus." Of course, this is not to say that everything that ever happened during Soviet times was bad an evil. Even under the repressive and totalitarian Soviet system, and even after exterminating millions of the most talented Russians (after all, more Russians were killed by the communist regime than any other nationality) and other nationalities, the people were still able to defeat the Nazis, place the first sputnik in space, place the first man in space, etc., etc. Just imagine the great accomplishments that would have taken place had the best and brightest NOT been annihilated, and if 75% of the officer corps had not been exterminated in the immediate years before WW II ! And as the facts show, the Katyn massacre was not a result of Russians massacring Polish officers, but rather of Communists massacring Polish officers, just as Communists massacred many more Russian officers, Russian priests and bishops and believers, Russian intellectuals, Russian peasants, etc., etc., etc.

  10. Natalie,

Read "Wall Street and the Bolshevik Revolution," by Antony Sutton. This used to be a staple of the Conservative Book Club, back in the 60s and 70s. It is well known that certain banks and financiers, and some other people, in the US and GB, provided crucial financial backing to the Bolsheviks, especially Trotsky.

  11. Yasha,

There is a big difference between the present government of Ukraine, especially that part headed by President Yushchenko, with his poll ratings in the single digits for quite a while now, and the rest of the people of Ukraine.

As President Medvedev so aptly put it recently, Yushchenko's policies are downright anti-Russian, and Medvedev has no beef with the people of Ukraine.

Unfortunately, it is quite clear that Yushchenko himself is not interested in looking out for the best interests of the people of Ukraine. He just repeats many of the same lies of extreme nationalists, trying to deflect his own blame by blaming everything on "The Russians." This is an old story that most people in the know know is false. Unfortunately, too many ignorant people in the West, and not so ignorant ideologues and Cold Warriors in the West, believe his lies and Saakashvili's lies when it comes to their rabid anti-Russian rhetoric.

It is clear for all who want to know the truth that Yushchenko gambled the well-being of his people by playing politics with gas supplies, which come down to pure and simple economics and the market economy. Pay for the gas like everyone else, or face getting it cut off. And then only because Yushchenko stole gas bound for European customers. Russia has subsidized Ukraine's supply of gas for too many years. It would be folly to do so when Ukraine's president was thumbing his nose at Russia every chance he could get. There is only so much that one can take. Yushchenko's personal ambitions and own corrupt skimming of gas money (via RosUkrEnergo) were all he cared about. Not his people.

  12. Excellent article Mr. Mishin. May I respond to some the others' observations. In terms of demographic changes, population loss or gain is not particularly important in itself. Europe lost at least a third of its population during the Black Death, Africa experienced losses for centuries due to slaving, China had dramatic setbacks at times due to floods, famines, civil wars ,etc. In other words, population loss far worse than currently seen has been historically common. What's really important ? Changes in the ethnic and religious composition of the population are important. Ask the Tibetans or the Israelis(!). Is the growing population of the UK or France or the USA really a sign of strength? You haven't been to London or Paris or California if your answer is "yes". This was not just an excellent article, but plausible and inspiring. Some of Mr. Mishin's critics are often blinded by their real or imagined grievances to appreciate Russia's(and Orthodoxy's) suffering and grievances.I have endured Mr. Mishin's criticism of the USA because he has his points and I am not here to refight the "Cold War". This is his blog,I am here to listen to him and it is no longer 1979 or 1989 or 1999. It is 2009 and I find his views of the future not only provocative and informed...but actually useful.

The U.S. Foreign Relations Committee of 1918 released a report listing the western banking firms people who financed the Bolshevik revolution most noticeably Schiff in New York but also Aschberg in Sweden, Rothschild in London and Warburg of Germany.

Not only that but he lobbied Wilson to give these Marxist exile groups in New York passports to enter Russia and steer the revolution and made up the bulk of the new Soviet government.

“Leon Trotsky (real name: Bronstein) was exiled from Russia and came to New York City on January 13, 1917. The Russian Jews who owned Vitagraph Movie Studies in Brooklyn gave Trotsky a job. He appeared in three films including "My Official Wife" starring Clara Kimball Young. Ironically, Trotsky played the part of a Russian revolutionary.
While in New York, Trotsky met with Schiff who saw in him the perfect revolutionary. Schiff had his "Friends of Russian freedom" locate 267 other Yiddish speaking Russian Jew exiles. He arranged for President Woodrow Wilson to give them U.S. passports so they could not be refused entry into Russia. Also, Schiff gave Trotsky $10 million (that is in 1917 dollars, which today would be worth hundreds of millions). Later Schiff would transfer another $15 million to Lenin.”

And Surprise the same pattern can be found in Poland and the other Soviet satellite states.

“In Poland, "...a disproportionate number of Communists were Jews. In 1930, at its peak, 35% of the members of the party were Jewish. In Communist youth organizations, Jewish membership was even higher, while Communists of Jewish origin occupied most of the seats on the central committee. Communism appealed to some Jews because it opposed anti-Semitism more vigorously than any other Polish party...Jewish Communists reached their apogee in the years immediately after World War Two, when the party leadership was totally in the hands of the prewar Communist leadership that abhorred anti-Semitism." (Sheldon Kirshner, The Canadian Jewish News, Nov. 5, 1992, p. 16).”

“According to Jewish researcher John Sack, "In 1945 many Poles felt (and not without reason) that Jews ran the Office of State Security...the chief of the Office was Jacob Berman, a Jew, and all or almost all the department heads were Jews." Sack reports that 75% of the officers of the Communist Secret Police in Silesia were Jews. He noted that many Jews in the Communist terror apparatus in Poland changed their names to Polish ones like General Romkowski, Colonel Rozanski, Capt. Studencki and Lt. Jurkowski. (cf. John Sack, The New Republic, Feb. 14, 1994, p. 6.”

As for Katyn that was ordered by Stalin (Georgian) and head of the NKVD Beria (Georgian Jew) with the lead mass murderer being a Jew who emigrated to Israel.

And was the Cheka (NKVD, KGB) not created by a Pole Dzerjinski under Lenin whose activities in Russia under his rule makes Katyn look like a drop in the ocean.

First, Afghanistan, under the king, was a soviet ally. Two, the Pakistanies, with US backing, assassinated the king and put a puppet on the throne in 1973, to try to create a new buffer against SU, India and Iran who all hated Pakistan, at which point all things fell apart.

Further, according to the 1994 interview with Brzezinski, the US started funding Islamic jihadists back in 1979 to cause a Jihad in the southern Soviet Union, which in turn led up to the Soviet invasion...now the US is getting to eat the shit pie it created for everyone, as it too sits in Afghanistan, fighting the very creatures it birthed and fed. Next time, try looking ahead more than 5 years to figure out where your actions will take things.

Actually it was an 98 interview with Le Nouvel Observateur.

    Question:

The former director of the CIA, Robert Gates (Obamas Secretary of Defence), stated in his memoirs ["From the Shadows"], that American intelligence services began to aid the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet intervention. In this period you were the national security adviser to President Carter. You therefore played a role in this affair. Is that correct?

    Brzezinski:

Yes. According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention.

Rus' is the ancient name for Russia, and is most often translated as Russia when referring to historical documents. Rus' has essentially always referred to the territory of most of the present day European part of (Great) Russia, most if not all of White Russia (Belorussia/Belarus'), and (originally) the northern and western parts of present-day Ukraine, and the Eastern Slavs who inhabited these territories, called rus'kiye, russkiye, rusiny, or other such variation adjective from the noun Rus', and where the English words "Russia" and Russian" have their origin. Also the places where Eastern Slavs lived, to include parts of the Carpathian Mountains (parts of present day Western Ukraine, Eastern Slovakia, Southeast Poland, etc.) Ruthenia was a Latin term for Rus' or Russia, and was the name used for the Russian (Rus') people of Austria-Hungary's Western Galicia and Carpatho-Rus'/Russia. The steppes south of Kiev were settled by Slavs a little later, after the Khazars, Cumans, Polovtsy, Pechenegs, etc, where either driven away, defeated, or "faded away" by the tides of history. The Eastern Slav people of Rus' were marked by their Eastern Orthodox Christianity and use of Church Slavonic as the ecclesiastical language (still in use after 1000 years or so!), and which served as part of their common literary language for quite a while, before modern Russian, Belorussian, Ukrainian, etc., developed. The Russian Orthodox Church uses the term Rus' to refer to itself, and the Patriarch is the Patriarch of "all the Russias" (all of Rus' - vseya Rusi), using the genitive form of Rus'. It is also interesting to note that Rus' has always included the cities of Kiev, Polotsk, and Novgorod, among many others, that are located in present-day Ukraine, Belarus' and Russia. These cities, and present-day Ukraine, Belarus' and Russia, are all part of historical Rus', and were united for centuries, except for those times when some parts were under foreign domination (mostly Polish and/or Lithuanian). In fact, St. Olga was a native of the Pskov region, and many other Grand Princes of Kiev were natives of the northern Rus' regions of Novgorod, Pskov, etc. But of course, you know all of the above already, don't you Jurij? But perhaps your interpretaion of history is different.

What you are referring to, Rossiya, also translated as Russia, refers to the Russian Empire, to include lands that were not originally Rus' (Russian)lands, or where other Russians/Eastern Slavs (yes, including those from Ukraine and Belarus') later settled. Think of it this way: the core Slavic Rus' lands would be analogous to the original 13 colonies that became the first 13 states of the USA. Then the American people expanded by settling farther and farther to the West (ever hear of Manifest Destiny?) until they reached the Pacific Ocean. Throw in some conquering of Indians and taking over lands belonging to Mexico along the way, and voila: present-day USA. In Russia's case, the expansion was to the East, also mostly to the Pacific Ocean, but then later included Alaska, and even reached as far as parts of California for a few small temporary settlements (i.e., Fort Ross). Only I dare say that, in general, the Russians treated the indigenous peoples of Siberia (analogous to the Indians)and Central Asia (analogous to the American Southwest, that used to belong to New Spain and then Mexico) a lot better than the Americans treated the Indians and many of the Mexicans, etc. The so-called "historical Russian expansionism" that so many ignorant people in the West (and some in Estern Europe) refer to is none other than Russia's own "Manifest Destiny" and expanding to more natural borders, especially as protector of the Christian areas of the Caucasus, which were threatened by Persians, Arabs, Turks, etc., and most of whom were Moslems. Only Russia treated its own Moslem subjects of Central Asia with a lot more respect. Also, Siberia was/is even more sparsely populated than the American West ever was. Russia's frontiersmen were Cossacks, and other settlers and farmers followed them east, just as other American settlers and farmers followed American frontiersmen to the West.
